<description>Mwalimu Nyerere's Efforts in Promoting Rural Development and the Current Situation of Rural and Urban Development in Tanzania
Matinda, Herry Zacharia
The development of any country depends more on the foundation and &#13;
philosophies that will prevail in that country's future. The fruits of what we are &#13;
enjoying today are the results of seeds planted more than sixty years back by &#13;
visionary philosophies of Mwalimu J. K Nyerere. During the leadership of &#13;
Mwalimu J. K Nyerere, the foundation was laid in different angles of &#13;
development. Through a literature review, this study revealed the strong and &#13;
futuristic efforts of Mwalimu J. K Nyerere has contributed much to promoting &#13;
rural and community development in Tanzania. It has been revealed that the &#13;
philosophy of self-reliance is still working and has fastened the community &#13;
development process in Tanzania. Despite the challenges, the findings show &#13;
that Tanzania has taken steps forward in many development areas such as &#13;
education, health, transportation, tourism, agriculture, mining, and industrial &#13;
development.  Based on these results, it has been concluded that Nyerere's &#13;
efforts in promoting rural development have contributed much to the current &#13;
development success in rural and urban areas in Tanzania. It is recommended &#13;
that young generations be highly equipped with knowledge, skills, and &#13;
experiences inherited from Mwalimu Nyerere's philosophies for sustainable &#13;
development in Tanzania.

among locals in coastal communities and their relationship with health-seeking &#13;
behaviour and established factors influencing health-seeking behaviour among &#13;
locals in coastal communities. The study used both quantitative and qualitative &#13;
research methods. Questionnaires were used for data collection; in-depth &#13;
interviews were conducted with key informants, and four focus group discussions &#13;
were conducted within the study area. In all, 200 respondents comprising 64 &#13;
males and 134 females were interviewed, while in-depth interviews included five &#13;
sub-village chairpersons and four health staff from the primary health centres &#13;
within the study area. Data were examined and subjected to statistical tests, &#13;

respondents within the study area were highly influenced by financial capability, &#13;
belief in a particular disease (nature of the disease), education level, and &#13;
availability of health facilities. These were the influencing factors concerning the &#13;
decision taken at the household level when a person falls ill. Variations among &#13;
locals in coastal communities based on the mentioned forces. This study, among &#13;
others, recommends that locals within the study area should use the available &#13;
health services once they become ill. The decision about health care should be &#13;
made by understanding illness, seriousness, and financial capacity for the health &#13;
and productive community.

Kimuganyila, Subira; Daninga, Phillip
The human right to social security is not yet a reality for the majority of the &#13;
world’s population despite the extension of social security fund in many parts of &#13;
the world. This study aimed at assessing the effectiveness of service provision to &#13;
pensioners in Tanzania. Specifically, the study sought to examine the ways in &#13;
which PSSSF use in delivering its services to pensioners; assess the effectiveness &#13;
of PSSSF in delivering its services to pensioners and explore the challenges faced &#13;
by PSSSF when discharging its duties to pensioners. The study employed a cross sectional survey research design to collect data involving 73 respondents &#13;
(pensioners) and 6 PSSSF managers as key informants who were conveniently and &#13;
purposely selected. The study used both primary and secondary data. The &#13;
Qualitative and Quantitative data were analyzed using Thematic and Descriptive &#13;
data analysis method respectively. Findings revealed that, service provision by &#13;
PSSSF are effective to a great extent. It was further revealed that, the manual &#13;
means of service delivery was found to be the mostly used by PSSSF in delivering &#13;
its services to users. The study recommends that PSSSF should be more innovative &#13;
by embracing use of information technology to ensure that the services delivered &#13;
to the pensioners are efficient and effective enough to make Pensioners appreciate &#13;
the services.

<title>Was Mwalimu Nyerere's wealth creation approach for poverty relief entrepreneurial in nature? : the Arusha declaration in perspective (1967)</title>
<link>http://41.59.91.195:9090/handle/123456789/166</link>
<description>Was Mwalimu Nyerere's wealth creation approach for poverty relief entrepreneurial in nature? : the Arusha declaration in perspective (1967)
Binto, Binto
Entrepreneurial wealth creation approaches are regarded as crucial for successful &#13;
poverty relief globally. As a result, there have been demonstrated preferences to &#13;
adapt to the general entrepreneurial tendencies by individuals, leaders, and &#13;
governments, especially since the late 1980s to date. Whereas wealth creation &#13;
approaches for poverty relief started before the emergence of the &#13;
entrepreneurship concept, it is not clear whether the social and economic &#13;
stakeholders who led the advocacy for poverty relief approaches prior to the &#13;
emergence of the entrepreneurship concept were entrepreneurial in nature. To fill &#13;
this knowledge gap, the study uses a cross reflective systematic literature review &#13;
to explore whether Mwalimu Nyerere's wealth creation approach for poverty relief &#13;
was entrepreneurial in nature. The study's findings establish dimensions of general &#13;
entrepreneurial tendencies. Thus, based on the findings of the study, it is &#13;
concluded that Mwalimu Nyerere's wealth creation approaches for poverty relief &#13;
through the Arusha Declaration (1967) were entrepreneurial in nature.
